This position focuses on fragrance technical development work that will be used in global and regional projects. The outcome of this work will be new products and product/ingredient insights that provide IFF with opportunities for profitable growth. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Senior Scientist is at the heart of perfumery innovation for the IFF Scent Division. The main responsibilities of the role will be to manage and drive new technology development for the fine fragrance category and novel fragrance concepts. This role will require the ability to understand and articulate perfumer and customer needs to provide a strategy for new technologies within R&D, procurement, and the Scent business. This position will also lead and manage a team of scientists that develop new insights to improve understanding of fragrance design and performance with technologies. This role will require strong collaborations with multiple business functions and teams across IFF and exceptional communication skills are required to manage various projects and interactions. The candidate will directly report to the Global FF ST&I Director and will be located in New York City or New Jersey. This position will be part of the global, cross category Scent Technology and Innovation team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Innovation Management Lead fine fragrance technology new product introduction to provide new fragrance creations, concepts, and solutions. Collaborate with R&D and other departments to understand performance technology, prioritize and introduce new products to the global creative teams and build a clear strategy for development and roll-out of new technologies in Fine Fragrances. Build and drive new technologies/ideations and work with Fine Fragrance management team on the innovation strategy. Actively follow ongoing developments in the field of fragrance technologies. Liaise with Scent colleagues to define critical business needs for fine fragrance category. Partner with R&D to define Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for new technologies and work through the category teams to assess their performance against the KPI’s providing relevant feedback. Lead a set of specific Innovation initiatives. Define critical partnerships with external suppliers to support key programs and initiatives. Drive IP Strategy for focused initiatives to maximize IFF competitive position. Talent Management Lead and manage ST&I scientists at New York Creative Center. Optimize team performance through excellent leadership, stretching goal setting, coaching and development. Identify and develop talent to elevate the technical and innovation knowledge as well as leadership competencies of the team. Communication & Teamwork Provide Senior management with clear updates on various initiatives. Liaise with various internal cross functional and cross-divisional colleagues and external collaborators. Foster a collaborative mindset and build a relationship of trust with other fragrance functions (Perfumers, Marketing, Consumer Insights) to enrich and accelerate the creative process. • Strong Innovation and Global Mindset. • Excellent collaboration aptitude. • Good leadership and team building capabilities. • Passionate about fragrance and product design. • Strong communication (both written/verbal - in English – French is an asset). • Change manager. • Proactive. • Results driven and customer focused. Required Experience & Education • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the industrial food, pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetic, consumer goods and/or fragrance industry in an international environment. • Masters or PhD degree in Chemistry, Science & Technology, or related discipline. • Proven record of managing new innovation projects globally. • Olfactive capabilities. • Build and inspire a team working with multiple functions across large organization. • Experience presenting to global, cross functional internal customers. • Ability to coach and mentor team members.
